Without further ado, I'd like to share with yo the fruits of my labor: Kite Tails Designs! By the end of the month my website will be up and running, with all sorts of fun new scrapbooking products to help get your pages complete! We'll be debuting our first 3 collections at CHA this summer, so expect to see all of these at your favorite retail store or online retailer by mid-August! I'll be posting some sneak peaks soon, as well as starting a specifically Kite Tails blog, so keep checking in :)Kailynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15012166350774836909noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034191474677555420.post-30356438411780959592011-04-10T22:38:00.000-04:002011-04-10T22:38:10.812-04:00Why Hello There! For anyone who's still checking in, you're diamonds. For those who might be peeking by way of Apron Strings Blog, welcome! As you can see from my extreme lack of posting recently, I've been more than a little busy with some things. I ready to share my big news with the world (or at least those of you who care to check in!) but first, I think I'll catch up on a couple of things I've been working on for Apron Strings:

Off to See the Wizard! These photos were from this past Halloween, where I convinced several of Finn's cousins to all dress up with him like characters from the Wizard of Oz. They were a hit walking around the neighborhood together, got so much candy! I used the My Mind's Eye Stella Rose collection for this layout, it's a Spring collection, but I think it does Fall justice as well...

I've been MIA for weeks now, cooking up something that'll hopefully knock everyone's socks off. I'm going to be gearing up for CKC in Manchester NH pretty soon, starting to put photos & papers together to get the most out of the classes & crops, and I'm not sure how much actual scrapbooking I'm going to get done between now & then.

I will be posting some 'After' pictures from our ongoing bathroom renovation in the next couple of days, so keep checking back for that little tidbit, and I hope I'll be able to share my big news with you all in the weeks to come.Kailynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15012166350774836909noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034191474677555420.post-90593040324908773502011-01-20T22:37:00.000-05:002011-01-20T22:37:43.257-05:001st Haircut

First haircut(s) were doubly painful. The first one was my desperate attempt to just "trim his bangs" a big so as to delay the inevitable. Shortly thereafter, we were sitting in a chair at the cutest little children's hair salon called 'Snip It's' getting a real, big boy haircut. Neither time was he amused, and it broke my heart to see all his beautiful little curls go. Thankfully, they've since grown back!Kailynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15012166350774836909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034191474677555420.post-89753948929503833592011-01-16T21:06:00.000-05:002011-01-16T21:06:41.193-05:00School Day
Finn's 1st Day of School!

The Good: The floors

I love the floors in the sink area. They're beautiful, neutral & easy to clean.

I wish they had put a base back on the cabinets though when they had installed it....

The Bad: The Lighting

I have no words. Actually I do, they are hideous, horrible, annoying, frusterating. I could go on. I swear we replace these bulbs ALL.THE.TIME and they still burn out randomly. Plus this lighting is less than flattering, which is never good.

I have a love/hate relationship with this space. I love the fact that the sink area is seperated from the toilet/bathtub area by a pocket door. I love the fact that that the pergo runs from the hallway into that sink area. That's about it for loves though. The hate list is far more extensive. I hate the fact that it's brown. Brown sink, brown toilet, brown bathtub. It looks like the color of things I've wiped off of my todder's behind. I hate the counters, the cabinets, the hardware, the mirror, the light fixture, and the fact that the sink is off center. There's more I'm sure, but it's late & I'm tired.

Thankfully, I've got it all worked out. I've got big plans for the bathroom, to turn it from love/hate/hate/hate/hate/hate into just plain old LOVE!

According to my darling husband (who often accuses me of having a bit of champagne taste that has been known to conflict with our beer budget) this renovation needs to be done in phases. It's not a bad idea anyways, seeing as though it's our only bathroom, and as a working mom, renovation time is really limited to weekends.

Oh, and did I mention that we're doing this all ourselves? This should be interesting...Kailynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15012166350774836909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034191474677555420.post-58446980498040896002011-01-03T22:05:00.001-05:002011-01-04T12:47:32.271-05:00The New Scrap SpaceOk, so Melanie over at Scrappily Ever after is hosting an Organizational Bootcamp this month, and although I've given my space a bit of a face-lift this past week off, I thought I'd check it out. I'm obsessive about organization, and always looking for new ideas! So here's what my space looks like today (Monday) after getting my new space in order:

All that's left is for our new sectional to show up and provide a lovely backing to my new cube storage. Any day now :)

Edited 1/4/11: I forgot to add that instead of writing down what doesn't work & how I would like my space to be, I'll write down what I didn't like that prompted me to change things:

-My loose papers were all disorganized and located in different spots
-I had run out of drawer space for my tools (punches, embossing heat gun etc) my stamps, and my painting supplies
-I had no good organization system for all my alpha
-My embellishment "binders" were stuffed full

Generally, I was just overflowing in most catergories & needed more space. One of my biggest goals was to create an environment that was strictly MINE! and one that had plenty of room to grow as I acquire more & more scrapping goodies :)Kailynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15012166350774836909noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034191474677555420.post-49584905002335042982011-01-02T21:18:00.000-05:002011-01-02T21:18:34.941-05:00New Year-New EverythingOk, maybe not new everything, but it is officially 2011, and that means it's time for some changes! I don't usually come up with resolutions too far in advance. I'm more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants resolutionist. I'm putting some serious thought into my blog layout however, sprucing up the design a bit, and adding lots of links to places I like to visit.

I've spent a good part of my week off (ahhh bliss!) re-organizing my scrap area (and stealing a bit more space out of our family room for it) An avid hobbist, I not only love to scrapbook, but also knit, crochet, paint, you name it. I originally created this blog as an easy way to post challenge layouts I participate in, but I've decided that it really should be a more all-encompassing blog, dedicated to all the things that keep me in a state of constant GO! So for 2011, not only will I be posting all of my (hopefully) plethera of scrapbooking layouts, but also my other creative projects like great knitting/crocheting patterns & projects, any new painting I do, and perhaps even a few posts dedicated to some yummy things that have or will be coming from my kitchen this year.

So strap in, get ready for some good changes, and here's to an amazing 2011! I had dreaded the inevitable for the first 18 months of his life, finally deciding that he really needed to start going part-time at least. I told myself he'd love it, I told myself he'd grow up being so much more social, I told myself him getting sick all the time now would just benefit him once he was in kindergarten. So I sucked it up and Finn started going just shy of his 18 month birthday. I cried. I cried so hard I almost picked him up early that day and scrapped the whole plan. I stuck it out though, and I'm so happy I did. These photos were taken by his teachers the first couple of weeks, and although he might have appeared devestated at me leaving him at the beginning, they assured me, and these photos are proof, that he got over it. Probably much more quickly that I did.
Ever since I flipped to a different kit for October, I've been coveting this Studio Calico Elementary kit from Apron Strings. Lori over there honored my billionth request to swap one of November's kits for this one, so I could finally do this layout I had been dying to do :)

These were taken just 2 months ago, and I can't believe the difference from last year. He was so much fun this year, actually picking the apples, saying "tractor" on the hayride, riding the pony. The layout itself was inspired by Page Maps Sisters Scrapbooks sketch contest, using the sketch above. I also followed an Apron Strings Monday Challenge which was enormously amusing, to create a scrap "Sundae" which I did using:

Chocolate Ice cream = Colored cardstock of my choice
Hot fudge = Epoxy embellishment (homemade green epoxy apple)
We just took this vacation last month (spoiled baby went to Disney before he was even 2!), but I've been collecting little Disney embellishments for months. Rather than further overwhelm myself with the idea of multiple layouts for 1 trip, I narrowed this vacation down to the "best of" Disney, and another one (to be completed later!) for Part II of the vacation, when we went back to our old stomping ground of St. Pete.

Back to this though, I wanted plenty of journaling, plenty of photos, but to find some way to tie all the colors and outfits from all the different days together. I pulled inpiration from an old Sketchy Thursdays sketch challenge that I didn't get around to doing months ago, but had saved to use some other time. That time has arrived.Kailynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15012166350774836909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034191474677555420.post-17644062652800816522010-11-12T22:18:00.000-05:002010-11-12T22:18:05.252-05:00Let's Go Camping

Hiking is one of Pop's favorite things to do, so what better way to celebrate Father's Day with a hike with his 2 daughters, 2 son-in-laws and 2 grandchildren. He was in heaven! My husband was a great sport coming along (he really does love hiking, although not as much as Pop) and we treated him to a special dinner at PJ's BBQ on our way home that night. Finn LOVES his cousin Emily, and they were such a riot playing together in the lean-to after we stopped to have lunch. Ok, maybe at least in Upstate NY. Finn ate himself into a food coma, something I would have gladly accompanied him doing, but they don't make adult-sized strollers.

This challenge is 2-fold, I used a Sketchy Thursdays 10-28 sketch and used Apron Strings 5 on Friday challenge for this. It wasn't until I had finished this layout before I realized that the 2 sheets of patterned paper were in liu of 1 sheet of cardstock and 1 sheet of patterned paper. Totally my bad, I should pay closer attention next time. The rest of the layout were using buttons, stickers (the Cosmo Cricket border stickers along the bottom) and a set of alpha for the title. This layout was inspired by Apron Strings Monday Challenge: incorporate a new technique into your layout. I love this challenge b/c I've been dying to get my hands on a bottle of that dimensional medium that turns embellishments thick & shiny like and epoxy sticker. I can't remember the actual name of this stuff, but I bought a bottle and used it on the chipboard butterflies and the words 'Walk' and 'Park'. I inked them first, and then added the gloss. LOVE this stuff, I have a feeling it's going to appear on many of my future layouts...Kailynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15012166350774836909noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034191474677555420.post-92019180951890826012010-10-23T23:27:00.002-04:002010-10-23T23:32:01.082-04:00Easter 2010

Sooo much bigger than the little 3 week old I had for Easter 2009! He found his Easter basket "hiding" behind the coffee table, and we had a lakeside Easter brunch up at the Algonquin. We are a Lake George kind of family (as many can see from the number of photos I take of us up there!) and I just love having a nice family photo of the 3 of us with the Adirondaks as our backdrop.

Btw, I'd like to point out that not only was a good little scrapper by digging deep into my materials for something I haven't used much of (flocking for the bunny's ears) but I also used my Cricut for the bunny itself, and all the Easter eggs! Hooray for a semi-productive weekend full of using stuff I already have :)Kailynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15012166350774836909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034191474677555420.post-28162214922868685422010-10-23T23:14:00.000-04:002010-10-23T23:14:16.297-04:00Making Mud Pies

I know these colors are sooo not Fall, but as I have yet to print all my deliciously spicy oranges, reds, browns and golds, so bright summery colors will just have to do. Plus it's me desperately clinging to some semblence of warmth. I love Fall more than any other season, but I'm wary of what follows afterwards....
This layout was inspired by Apron Strings Sketches on Thursday. I forgot to download the sketch before starting this post, so here's a link to their blog.Kailynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15012166350774836909noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034191474677555420.post-44778641209196902062010-10-20T22:31:00.000-04:002010-10-20T22:31:50.948-04:00Love

I have a confession to make. I love this layout. I love the subject (obviously, he's all I scrap about!) I love the subdued colors, the simplicity. My confession is, I totally was not a fan of this kit. It's Pink Paislee-Queen Bee, and it's just not my style. I'm not a major vintage-y type person, and so this kit has sat in my pile for several months, without so much as a second glance. Then I pulled out this mini photo collage of Finn's 1st birthday portraits and voila! The perfect papers for this photo. I think it's the old-school feel of his little newboy cap that drew me to these. Lesson learned, never judge a scrapbook by it's cover (well, you judge it by this cover page) and never judge a kit by its papers, the perfect photos just might come along.Kailynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15012166350774836909noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034191474677555420.post-89607208673774927012010-10-20T22:16:00.000-04:002010-10-20T22:16:13.392-04:00The Great Outdoors

These photos were taking the day after his big birthday party (an event large enough to dedicate an entire album too, but that talk is far to overwhelming to me at this point, so we're going to move on....) when he got to eat his leftover smoosh cake. I struggle with the colors of his highchair cover so often, but it just so happened that I ordered a few add-on papers from Apron Strings that ended up working very nicely for his bright, cheery day. I had my eye on these Cosmo Cricket "The Boyfriend" papers for awhile now, they were just what these photos needed! Even better, is I have plenty left for another layout! I digress, this layout was inpsired by Apron Strings Monday Challenge which was to " create a layout and let song lyrics inspire you" So sing it with me!Kailynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15012166350774836909noreply@blogger.com1
